on the road. Our members travel extensively to play or sometimes just talk. Here's some recent highlights Summer 2009 Paul & Lorna take part in a Mr & Mrs Petanque tournament in France and from a field of over 60 make it to the final where they don't quite win. They do however both get an attractive keyring. July 14th 2010
Club members join 12 schools and 48 children in a petanque tournament at Wetherby to celebrate le quatorze juillet.
Honley 19th March 2011 Club Secretary attends the bacon butties and boules event where Honley Village Hall committee launch their project to get a 2 lane terrain in the middle of the village. They hope to be done by Summer 2011. Secretary makes a speech and promises to play them once their terrain is built. Elland 26th March 2011 The club ventures into the Ashdene Naturist Park to play a match there. A three lane piste with light grey gravel not unlike Wetherby's ground. After 3 rounds of 3 games the score is 5-4 to Ashdene (but 96 to 93 on points to Leeds). A return in Leeds is planned for the summer. Huntington Pairs July 2011 An off the beaten track event which wasn't in the Northern region calendar but 14 teams turned up to a 7 round pairs tournament that was interesting as each team only played 6 matches. Pam and Alan managed 4 wins out of 6 which is very impressive and Paul and Rosanna made 5 wins out of 6 (and lost the other one 12-13) but still only managed 4th as other teams had better points difference. Nice to see Leeds teams challenging for the prizes. South West France September 2011 Paul & Lorna join the English Petanque team to play the French Petanque team in an annual fixture. For years the french have won but this year the score after 4 hours of play and 52 games was 26 all. Victory was decided on points and went to the English!!! |
