Getting to Glen Road

Glen Road Map

The Club is located at the Richmond House sports field on Glen Road. This is about half a mile north of the centre of Headingley (Arndale Centre), just off the main Otley Road. Glen Road is the right turn past the BP petrol station, and just after the pedestrian crossing. Entrance to the site is then about 100 meters along Glen Road on the left.

From outlying areas take the Leeds Ring Road (A6120) to the roundabout with the A660 Skipton Road. Take the A660 towards the City Centre. Go straight accross the first roundabout and through the next set of traffic lights. Turn left just before the pedestrian crossing onto Glen Road.

When on Glen Road you will see a large wooden fence boardering the sports field. Approximately half way along is a gate into the car park. If using a SatNav system then the following postcode should get you there: LS16 5NJ

What is Pétanque

The game is similar in principle to bowls. The pitch has a loose, gritted surface and is approximately 15 meters long. The metal boules are tossed with the aim of either getting close to the jack or knocking your opponent's boules out of contention. Points are scored for each of your boules which is closer to the jack than any of your opponent's. Matches are played as singles, doubles or triples. Sets are played with the winning team being the first to get to 13 points.

What do I need to play

To start with nothing. The Club has a stock of boules for use on Club nights. As players get more proficient they may wish to buy their own sets of three boules. Competition boules, normally imported from France, are more precisely made in size and weight, and differ for the various styles of play. The Club can provide advice on buying boules.
